You’re Religious But Will You Go To Heaven?

Heaven

Not All Religious People Will Go to Heaven.

Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23 “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

This passage of Scripture shows that someone could even cast out devils and do miracles in Jesus’ Name, and still not go to heaven.

In order to go to heaven we must do the Father’s will.

What is the Father’s will?

John 6:40 “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

John 3:16″ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

It is the Father’s will that we believe in Jesus, if we do not believe in Jesus, we do not go to heaven. No matter how religious we are. Hell is full of religious people.

How do we believe in Jesus?

The Bible says in Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

To believe in Jesus does not mean to only be fully persuaded in your mind of who Jesus is and what He did.

The word “believe” in Romans 10:9 in the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance roots backwards twice to a word, which means “obey” (the word believe is Strong’s # 4100 in the Greek, which comes from # 4102, which comes from # 3982, which means obey and also yield).

This shows that true faith is rooted in obedience.

In order to fulfill the requirements of salvation in Romans 10:9 you must:

Be fully persuaded in your mind of who Jesus Christ is (God in the flesh John 1:1-3, John 1:14, John 3:16, and 1 John 5:7; Born of a virgin Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 1:30-35) and what He has done (died on a cross 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 and arose from the dead in a flesh and bone body Luke 24:39), and your heart must change from wanting to sin to wanting to obey God. This is an immediate change of your heart (meaning desire and will).

It means that you yield (submit) your will to God’s will.

That is repentance of sins, and it is required for you to receive forgiveness of your sins, and go to heaven.

Luke 13:5 “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”

God does not want you to go to Hell! He wants you to get saved!

Ezekiel 18:23 “Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?”

Ezekiel 18:23 agrees with 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

In addition, Matthew 9:13 says “But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Your actions may not change immediately after you get saved, but you are going to be so convicted over your sin, when you mess up, that you are going to cry out to God to help you to change.

This is the only way you can go to heaven.

Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

If you have never believed in Jesus and repented of your sins, please do it now. Here is a prayer that you can pray word for word or use as a guide to tell God that you believe the gospel, repent of your sins and ask Him to forgive you of your sins.

The prayer does not save you.

The decision to believe in Jesus and repent of your sins is what saves you.

The prayer just helps you tell God that you have made these decisions.

Here is the prayer:

“Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and bodily arose from the dead 3 days later to pay for my sins. I repent of my sins. Please forgive me of my sins and help me to obey you and live for you for now on. Please take me to heaven when my life on this earth is over. Thank you for saving me. In Christ Jesus name, Amen.”

Get saved now. Don’t wait! Many people are dying right now, even some young and healthy people are dying from the Corona virus. You never know when you will die. God does not promise you another minute.

The Bible says after death you are judged!

Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

In addition, you will always remember this time when you could have been saved by simply believing in Jesus and repenting of your sins, but refused too, and that will torment you worse than the flames!

Don’t make that fatal mistake! Get saved now, so you will go to heaven!

God’s Prescription for America and the World

God's prescription

God has a prescription of healing and restoration for America, and the rest of the world. God does not want to destroy people, He wants to save people. God has a beautiful plan for everyone, if they would just turn to Him in faith and obedience.

God’s Prescription

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

A lot of people are talking about praying, but God does not just require us to pray. He also requires us to humble ourselves, repent of our sins, and seek Him. Only then will He hear our prayers and heal our land!

God’s will

It is God’s perfect will that our Country continues and is prosperous until Christ’s return. However, God cannot tolerate sin, and if America refuses to turn back to Him then we are at risk of losing everything.

We are under God’s judgment.

Right now, a deadly virus is sweeping throughout our nation and the world. There are also severe storms sweeping through America right now.

God is angry, folks! Because His people refuse to obey Him, and the lost people hate Him and mock His Name!

We are living on the brink of destruction, and it is only by God’s mercy that we have not already been consumed!

Things will only get worse until people repent and turn to obeying Him.

We can stop God’s judgment.

God’s judgment can end, and revival can break out all over the world, if God’s people would repent, obey Him, and pray for revival and healing.

What you need to do if you are a Christian, but not completely right with God.

If you are a backslidden Christian, you need to repent now and start praying that God has mercy and sends revival and heals America and the rest of the world. God will make your problems keep getting worse until you turn back to Him!

What you need to do if you have never trusted in Jesus Christ as your Savior.

If you have never trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior, you need to do it now so that you do not go to Hell. Many people are dying right now, even some young and healthy people are dying from the Corona virus. You never know when you will die. God does not promise you another minute.

Please go to the page How to get to Heaven to learn how you can trust in Jesus now. It is not just saying a prayer. It requires a lot more that just that.

What you need to do if you are a Christian and are right with God.

Lastly, if you are a Christian and are right with God, pray for revival, warn people of God’s judgment, and tell them how to get saved or get right with God. Be sure to trust God to meet your needs, and try your best to not complain, but praise God and thank Him for everything that you have. Ask Him to give you wisdom on how to live during these times, and then do what He says.

Biblical Answers to 5 Common Questions about Mary

Bible

1. Was Mary Divine?

Luke 1:46-47 “And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.”

Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”

Mary is recorded in Scripture as calling God her Savior. Only sinners need to be saved. Jesus is God (see John 1:1-3 and John 1:14) and came to save sinners, including Mary.

Mary was not Divine, nor is she co-redeemer with Christ. She was completely human, she was a sinner, and had to be saved, just like us.

2. Does Mary Help People Pray?

Mary does not help people pray. That is the Holy Spirit’s job. Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

3. Are We to Pray to Mary?

We are not to pray to Mary either. We are only to pray to God.

Matthew 6:6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”

4. What Did Mary Command People to do?

The only command in Scripture that Mary gives is to do what Jesus said.

John 2:5 “His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.”

5. Did Mary Remain a Virgin after the Birth of Jesus?

Matthew 1:25 “And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.”

This verse shows that Mary did not remain a virgin after the birth of Christ.

In addition, the Bible shows that Mary and Joseph had other children after Jesus was born.

Mark 6:3a “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?”

If you have never trusted in Jesus Christ alone to save you, please go to the page “How to Get to Heaven” now to learn how.

Hell is Not a Party!

Hell is Not a Party! Hell is Torment!

Hell is not a party, Hell is torment!

Revelation 14:11a “And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night,”

Jesus said there is fire in Hell.

Mark 9:43-44 “ And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched. Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.” These verses mean to get rid of whatever is stopping you from getting saved, so you do not go to Hell, even if it is a physical body part.”

If you go to Hell, you will never get out, you will be tormented there forever!

The phrase “their worm dieth not” in the passage of Scripture given above is simply saying that people will not die in Hell, but that they will be tormented in fire forever.

Man is referred to as a “worm” in Job 25:6 “How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?”

Jesus said that people will die in their sins and go to Hell if they do not believe in Him.

Matthew 23:33 “Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?” If you read the few verses before this one you will see he was speaking to the religious leaders who did not believe in Him.

John 8:24 “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.” If you go to this passage in the Bible and look at verse 13 you will see that he was talking to the religious leaders who did not believe in Him, just like He was in Matthew 23.

So, yes, Jesus said that people will die in their sins and go to Hell if they do not believe in Him.

Now look at these verses:

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Revelation 20:14-15 “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire,”

Jesus said that if people did not believe in Him then they would die in their sins and go to Hell, the wages of sin is death, that death is the Lake of fire that hell is cast into. Therefore, if you do not believe in Jesus, you will die in your sins, and go to hell and then the lake of fire.

You will be tormented in Hell and then in the lake of fire (remember Hell is thrown into the lake of fire) for all eternity, you will never get out.

Revelation 14:11a “And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night,”

You will not even have the comfort of a single drop of water to cool your tongue in Hell!

Luke 16:19-31 “There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”

This is not a parable. This is a true account. Jesus used Lazarus’s name. Jesus never named anyone in parables. That rich man really went to Hell, and he is still being tormented in that flame today, and he has never received any comfort from his torments, not even a single drop of water!

Now, Jesus has risen from the dead. Will you listen to Him and be saved from Hell?

What is worth going to Hell for?

Matthew 16:26 “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

Whatever you are thinking of exchanging your soul for, you will realize was not worth it! Once you are burning in the flames of Hell!

You are not promised another minuet of life! You could die and fall into Hell at any moment!

God gives life; therefore He can take it whenever He wants too! God does not answer to us, we answer to Him! He is God! We are like worms!

Once you die that is it! Nowhere does the Bible promise another chance to get saved after death!

No!

The Bible says after death you are judged!

Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

And as shown earlier, if you die in your sins by not believing in Jesus then you go to Hell, and Hell is not a party!

What does it mean to believe in Jesus?

Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Therefore, in order to fulfill the requirements of salvation in Romans 10:9 you must be fully persuaded in your mind of who Jesus Christ is (God in the flesh John 1:1-3, John 1:14, John 3:16, and 1 John 5:7; Born of a virgin Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 1:30-35) and what He has done (died on a cross 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 and arose from the dead in a flesh and bone body Luke 24:39), and your heart must change from wanting to sin to wanting to obey God. This is an immediate change of your heart (meaning desire and will).

It means that you yield (submit) your will to God’s will.

That is repentance of sins, and it is required for you to receive forgiveness of your sins.

As I wrote above, you could die at any moment, and whatever you are thinking of exchanging your soul for, you will realize was not worth it! Once you are burning in the flames of Hell!

In addition, you will always remember this time when you could have been saved by simply believing in Jesus and repenting of your sins, but refused too, and that will torment you worse than the flames!

Don’t make that fatal mistake! Get saved now!

Hell is not a party! It is torment!

Faith is the Evidence

Faith

The Bible says that Faith is the evidence for there being a God.

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Natural processes cannot explain the existence of faith, only God can.

Just think about it for a moment. If life originated from any kind of natural process, and not from a Supernatural act by a Supernatural Being (God), then how do you explain the existence of faith?

Why do most humans feel the need to believe in something supernatural, if everything is just natural?

What about transformed lives?

Furthermore, if there is no God, if the Bible is not true, if Jesus is not real, then why are so many people’s lives dramatically transformed, when they just simply believe in Jesus and start obeying the Bible?

How do you explain all the testimonies of people whose lives were a mess until they believed in Jesus and started obeying the Bible? They were drug addicts, drunkards, prostitutes, criminals, etc. Some of them tried everything (like counseling, discipline, even other religions) to turn over a new leaf and get their lives straitened out. Some of them had their family and the law try to straighten them out, but nothing worked!

Until they committed their lives to Jesus Christ, and started obeying His Word, then suddenly they never drank, did drugs, committed crimes, or prostituted ever again.

You can find a lot of testimonies like these by going to churches and talking to Christians, and there are a lot of them on Youtube as well.

Jesus Christ is the only explanation for these transformed lives!

These transformations are not caused by any natural process, but by a Supernatural act by a Supernatural Being (Jesus Christ).

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

If you have never had any of your own experiences with God, you can know that He is real based upon the testimonies of other people’s experiences. The truth is, you may not have your own experience with God until you do believe in Jesus.

The Bible says that faith is the evidence for the existence of God, the truth of the Bible, the reality of Jesus being God, and all other things supernatural.

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the… evidence of things not seen.”

So science and history can be debated all day long, but the fact is there is a God that created everything! And the existence of faith itself, is the evidence that proves that fact! And since there is a God, you are accountable to Him!

What does God require of you?

To repent of your sins and believe in Jesus.

The Bible says:

Acts 17:30 “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:”

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Jesus is both God and the Son of God.

John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

John 10:30 “I and my Father are one.”

1 John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

If you do not believe in Jesus, and repent of your sins before you die then you will be tormented in flames of fire for all eternity.

Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (This death is not physical, but spiritual. It means that you will be separated from God and tormented in the Lake of fire for all eternity.)

Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Revelation 20:14-15 “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

Revelation 14:11a “And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night” (You will never burn up and stop existing in Hell, you will be tormented in flames forever.)

Mark 9:43 “And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:”

Matthew 16:26 “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

How to Be Saved:

Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

You must believe that Jesus arose from the dead in a flesh and bone body, not just in Spirit form.

Luke 24:36-40 “And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.”

Therefore, in order to fulfill the requirements of salvation in Romans 10:9 you must be fully persuaded in your mind of who Jesus Christ is and what He has done, and your heart must change from wanting to sin to wanting to obey God. This is an immediate change of your heart (meaning desire and will).

It means that you yield (submit) your will to God’s will. That is repentance of sins, and it is required for you to receive forgiveness of your sins.

All of your actions may not change immediately after you get saved, but you are going to be so convicted over your sin, when you mess up, that you are going to cry out to God to help you to change.
This is the only way you can go to heaven.

If you have never done this, please do it now.

Here is the prayer you can pray, if you have made the decisions written above:

“Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and I believe that Jesus Christ died on a cross and bodily arose from the dead 3 days later to pay for my sins. I repent of my sins. Please forgive me of my sins and help me to obey you and live for you for now on. Please take me to heaven when my life on this earth is over. Thank you for saving me. In Christ Jesus name, Amen.”

The Bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ

The Bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Jesus arose from the dead in a flesh and bone body not just in Spirit form.

Luke 24:36-39 “And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.”

He also told Thomas to touch Him.

John 20:26-27 “And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.”

John testified that they touched Him.

1 John 1:1 “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;”

You must believe the truth about the resurrection of Jesus Christ in order to be saved.

Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

If you have not believed in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, then you are not saved. Salvation is not obtained by a prayer, but by a decision based upon the Truth of the Gospel. Please go to the page “How to get to Heaven” to learn how you can be saved now.

The Holy Spirit (Ghost)

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead.

1 John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

He was involved in creating humans.

Genesis 1:26-27 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

The Holy Spirit  is the Comforter, He reproves the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement.

John 16:7-11 “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.”

He helps us pray.

Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

The Catholics teach that Mary helps people pray, but the Bible says that the Holy Spirit helps us pray. Nowhere does the Bible say that Mary helps anyone pray.

He teaches us all truth.

John 16:13″Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

He baptizes us into Christ’s body.

1 Corinthians 12:13 “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”

He indwells us, and seals us in Christ at salvation.

Ephesians 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,”

He gives us gifts and power to lead others to Christ.

Acts 2:1-8 “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?”

Acts 2:41-42 “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”

The gift of tongues:

Tongues are languages.

Acts 2:1-11″And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.”

Speaking in tongues is a sign to unbelievers.

1 Corinthians 14:21-22 “In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.”

The purpose of speaking in tongues, just like all the other gifts, of the Spirit is to lead other people to Christ. Speaking in tongues does not give you the Holy Spirit, does not fill you with the power of the Holy Spirit, nor does it make your prayers more powerful. As said above, we receive the Holy Spirit at Salvation, not by speaking in tongues. We are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit by simply allowing Him to fully control us and produce the fruits of the Spirit in our lives (see Ephesians 5:18 and Galatians 5:22-23).

Not all Christians speak in tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:27-31 “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”

I do not speak in tongues myself, but I cannot find any biblical reason that says it is wrong to speak in tongues.

There is no need to practice or take classes to learn how to speak in tongues. The Holy Spirit just speaks through you.

Acts 2:4 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

It is important to note here that the disciples did not receive the Holy Ghost at this time. They were only filled with His power. They received the Holy Ghost after Jesus arose from the dead and breathed on them.

John 20:22 “And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:”

Do not forbid to speak in tongues.

1 Corinthians 14:39 “Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.”

Many people today forbid to speak in tongues because the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 13:10 that when that which is perfect shall come tongues shall cease. They say that the phrase “That which is perfect” is speaking of the Bible. I believe the Bible is perfect and I can see their argument.

However, other people argue that this passage is talking about Jesus returning. It is true that when Jesus come back there will be no more “tongues”, because tongues are languages and we will all speak the same language. The Bible does not plainly say what this “perfect” is, but it does say not to forbid to speak in tongues.

Therefore, I will not limit God or judge others for speaking in tongues, if they obey the rules laid out in Scripture as below.

Only 1 person at a time is to speak in tongues with a total of 2 or 3 in the whole church service.

1 Corinthians 14:23 “If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?”

1 Corinthians 14:27 “If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.”

There must be an Interpreter.

I Corinthians 14:27-28 “If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.”

1 Corinthians 14:13 “Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.”

It is best to already know what you are going to say and the interpretation of it before you speak.

Married women are not to speak in tongues in the Church.

1 Corinthians 14:34-35 “Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.”

This is only speaking of married women, because the word “women” in this verse specifically means wives in the original Greek (see in the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance with Greek and Hebrew dictionaries #1135 in the Greek.) Also, we can see this from the context, because it says these women have husbands. In addition, if you take this verse in context, it is only saying that a married woman cannot speak in tongues in the Church, not that she cannot speak at all in the Church.

Prophecy is more important than tongues.

1 Corinthians 14:1-5 “Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.”

Charity is most important.

1 Corinthians 13:1-7 “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”

A lot of people put too much emphasis on tongues. Speaking in tongues is not a second working of grace, nor is it baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is simply one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and a sign to unbelievers (particularly unbelieving Jews) that Jesus (The Messiah) has come and died and rose again.

Our responsibility towards the Holy Spirit:

Do not blaspheme against the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 12:31 ” Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.”

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is calling the Holy Spirit the Devil. This is why I do not say that it is the Devil speaking through people when they speak in tongues as some people I know say this. Nobody knows that for sure, and I am not about to get into trouble with God for blasphemy against the Holy Ghost.

Be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 5: 18-20 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” This means we should allow the Holy Spirit to control us like alcohol controls a person who is drunk with it.

When a person is filled with (controlled by) the Holy Spirit, their life will show the fruits of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Do not Grieve the Holy Spirit. (Do not do things you are not supposed to do.)

Ephesians 4:30-32 “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Do not Quench the Holy Spirit. (Do not refuse to do things that you are supposed to do.)

I Thessalonians 5:19 “Quench not the Spirit.”

I pray this lesson helps you understand the Holy Spirit better. Who He is, what He does, and what we are to do for Him.

Jesus Claimed to be God

Jesus Claimed to be God

Some people, like the Jehovah’s Witnesses, will tell you that Jesus never claimed to be God.

However, there are many verses in the Bible which show that Jesus did claim to be God. Today we are going to study some of these verses.

Jesus Claimed to be God, when He applied God’s Personal Name to Himself.

John 8:58 “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”

Exodus 3:13-15 “And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.”

Jesus claimed to be God, when He said that He and God were one. The Jews even tried to stone Him for saying He was God.

John 10:30-33 “I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.”

It was prophesied in the Old Testament that Jesus would be God in the flesh, the Son of God, and that He and the Father are one.

Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (also see Luke 1:35 and John 5:17-18 KJV)

Jesus claimed to be God, when He forgave sins.

Mark 2:5-12 “When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.”

The man being healed proved that Jesus was God and could forgive sins.

Jesus proved His claim to be God, when He raised Himself from the dead.

John 2:19-22 “Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.”

John 10:17-18 “Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”

Jesus claimed to be God, when He appeared to John in Revelation.

Revelation1:13 “And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. “

Revelation 1:17-18 “And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”

Jesus claimed to be God by allowing people to worship Him and call Him God.

John 20:26-29 “And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”

Jesus commended Thomas for finally believing that He was God. If Jesus was not God, He would have corrected Thomas on that point.

Many times the Bible shows that Jesus both claimed and proved that He is God.

Therefore, when you witness to someone who does not believe that Jesus claimed to be God, then you can show them these verses and help them get saved.

A person cannot be saved without believing that Jesus is God.

2 John 1:7 “For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.”

1 John 4:2-3 “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.” (see also John 1:1-3 and John 1:14 KJV)

A person who is saved, has the Spirit of God and will say that Jesus is God.

If you had not believed that Jesus was God until now, then you are not saved.
